9/10/09 - Finally completed the Girl Scout Sleeping Bags page! The Girl Scout Blankets were moved to Girl Scout Collectibles.

9/8/09 - New pages: Girl Scout Canteens and Girl Scout Cutlery Kits.

9/6/09 - It's been a long time since I've updated this website. It wasn't a planned hiatus - but necessary. I'm working now on updating/refreshing all the pages - but it will be slow going. I'm sorry, but I haven't been answering emails either. I have missed my time with the website and ALL the changes going on with Girl Scouting. So much! Bookmark this page if you want to stay posted with the changes.

Today - It's a Girl Scout Christmas page was updated with some new ornaments. I don't have dates for most of them. If you have any more info I'd love to add it to the website.

2/8/09 - Back to updating the website after a long hiatus. Some new, rare magazine covers featuring Girl Scouts in The Art Of Being Girl Scout section. More updates all through the website coming over the next few weeks.

10/19/08 - Overhauled & updated the GS Needlework and GS Patterns pages and moved them into their own section Girl Scout Sewing Room.

10-12-08 - New page - Girl Scout Clocks - all those wonderful little folding travel clocks. Girl Scout Bracelets page has been given an overhaul.

10-11-08 Now that autumn has settled in it's time to get back to updating the website. The Badge section has gone through an overhaul. Now you can find badges based on the years they were produced or by category.  Susan M. sent in her transcription of her mother's diary when she stayed a few weeks at Camp Andree in 1928! You can find a link to the page under Girl Scout  National Sites > Camp Andree. Tony S. sent in some amazing images and information on the 1926 World Conference held at Camp Macy in 1926. If you ever wondered how much it cost to run a World Conference and stay under budget or see Juliette Low with a strange "thingy" on her shoulder check out Girl Scout Events > 1926 World Conference. Several people sent in updates on council camps and badges. F.T. Rick B. sent in images to complete the Girl Scout Calendar page. Once again - I'm sorry about being so slow to answer emails!

7-6-08 - New page, World To Explore Badges, in the Girl Scout Badges section

7-5-08 - Betsy V. sent in an image of her Brownie toothbrush, which launched a new page of Girl Scout toothbrushes in the Beauty Kit section. Once again, I had no idea there were so many styles through the years. Betsy also sent an Brownie record album image. Some folks have sent in images and updates from their favorite campsites. I've added these as I update the website. I'm working my way through emails again - I'm sorry for not responding quickly to emails!

7-4-08 - New page - Girl Scout Shoes - learn more than you ever wanted to know about official Girl Scout shoes. Did you know there were 3 styles of official Mariner shoes? New page is located in the Girl Scout Uniforms section.

6-29-08 I have been searching through NewsArchives.com for information on Girl Scout Camps. It's like a treasure hunt - you never know what you'll find. You'll notice many newspaper articles now included in the Camp Scrapbook pages. I've been working on Ohio and California lately finding camps from the 1920s and 1930s. Occasionally there will newspaper articles about something unpleasant happening on a campsite. I have omitted these - as I know many girls visit this website. I don't feel that it is the scope of this website to bring ALL the news from the past.

Did you know? In 1924, when the first official records of Girl Scout camps was compiled there were 194 registered camps, by 1933 there were 695.

6-28-08 - Just launched - an updated Camp Scrapbook section. Now the camps are listed by state (however - there is an alphabetical listing after Wyoming). The Camp Equipment is now a section on its own, as is the Senior Roundups. Check out the Camp Mystery page - maybe you can help solve a mystery!

5/18/08 - Found this listing while surfing the net - want to buy a Girl Scout Camp?

Offered for the first time in 60 years is the historic Flying _G_ Ranch. Since 1945, this ranch has been a Girl Scout camp. It has 360 acres, a lodge, camp facilities and historic a log home and barns. Two year-round creeks meander through the tall trees and picturesque meadows that frame the campgrounds. On all four sides it borders Pike National Forest; Lost Creek Wilderness is close by. Now, you or your favorite church/charity have an opportunity to own this prime and scenic property.

Asking $2,750,000.

 - Angie O. sent in a collection of Girl Scout record album covers - you can see them in the Girl Scout Conservatory. A new section is shaping up;  Girl Scouts - A Call To Service, celebrating the work of Girl Scouts through the years. I found an image of Girl Scout Hospital Aides, wearing their unique emblem, from 1947 - you can see it there!

5/10/08 - In the "Who Knew?" category - there are two versions of the First Headquarters pin:

Two versions of this pin; top one says First National Girl Scout Headquarters, the second one omits the National. I don't know which one is older.

Many people have emailed asking about this patch - so here's what I know. It was introduced in 1978 and here's the catalog description.

5/2/08 - Check out the Girl Scout Calendars page - Rick B. sent in several covers, especially a lovely one from 1937. He also sent in a 1929 Girl Scout Diary cover.

5/1/08 - Finally - the Girl Scout Sleeping Bags and Blankets page is launched, but still under construction. Its in the Camp Scrapbook section.

Does anyone know about this pin? It was sent in as an unknown pin by Amanda Y (nearly a year ago!). I just found the image in my files.

3/22/08 - I'm embarrassed to admit it - but I have been very slow to answer some email to the Vintage Girl Scout Online Museum. As I'm cleaning out computer files (a never ending task) I keep finding emails I meant to answer. Simply - if your email had questions concerning Thinking Day and foreign uniforms or pins I won't be answering - it's too late and you probably don't care anymore. If you email was sent longer than a couple of months ago - and you are still interested or have a question, please email again. Last night I found in my files an email about GS sleeping bags (her images inspired a new page I'm working on about GS blankets and sleeping bags). Her email was 9 months old! I feel terrible about that.

3/19/08 - Michelle sent in images of her Round-up doll - you can see it on in the Camp Scrapbook -  Senior Round-up 1965 page. Talli sent images of her latest find - a MACY charm!, view it on the Girl Scout National Sites - MACY page. I also added some vintage MACY postcards - including one of the Macy Bell.

3/9/08 - Carol M. wrote to let me know this LuAnn comic shown below is continuing with the Girl Scout pin theme - and it inspired a new page - Girl Scouts in the Comics. I dug through my files and found several Girl Scout related comics and launched the page in The Art Of Being Girl Scout section.

Today's Comic

3/9/08 - A new page - Girl Scout Sleepwear, a collection of pajamas and such - found in the Girl Scout Clothes Lines. Ernie Altvater sent in a World War I Liberty Bond flag awarded to Girl Scouts - Girl Scouts War & Service. Carol J. sent in some magazine covers awhile ago, I just found them and placed them in the Girl Scouts On Magazines. F.T. Rick B. sent in a pin image - is it a Golden Eagle of Merit Pin? Check the Girl Scout Pins - Golden Eaglet page. Angie O. sent in several items - a copper cookie cutter, some calendar covers, a bookmark, camera, Sri Lanka Girl Guides pin, fiction book covers. Carol M. let me know that the Luann comic shown above from March 5 has a Girl Scout pin in it!

3/1/08 - Built new pages in the Girl Scout Clothes Line section - a page for all the swim suits listed in the catalogs and all the aprons.

2/29/08 - Busy, busy, busy - F.T. Rick Bedsworth sent in some mystery troop crests (they sure are lovely and well made) so I placed them on the "Mystery Girl Scout & Girl Guides" page (which I moved out of the International Section and into the main section). Ernie Altvater sent in images of Girl Scout money banks - so I added those images and the dates on the Collectibles - Girl Scouts are Thrifty page. Beverly M. sent in record album covers - so I've started a new section called the Girl Scout Conservatory. Sherry J. sent in images and info on Camp Chalk Hills. A different Girl Scout cuff link was found in the 1974 catalog - it was only sold for one year, so I add that image. I updated the official but non-uniformed Girl Scout clothing page with a couple of new items. I'm working my way through emails and added images as I go along...

2/26/08 - Who knew? There are at least 2 versions of the Our Chalet participants pin. Both of these pins are the same size (just scanned at a different size) - but a closer look shows some differences - a few are pointed out here. I don't know which one is older - I suspect Style 1 is older, but have no information to base the opinion on. By the way, I think the name on Style 1 is "Peka". If you are lucky enough to own an Our Chalet pin, check it out - is it different?

2/24/08 - Talli sent in some great international Girl Scout and Girl Guide membership pins - in the International section; Chile, Columbia, Paraguay, Tanzania, Uganda, Lebanon, Liberia!

2/15/08 - C.M. sent in some images - cookie charms and a cookie bank, 50th anniversary charm, different cookie cutter and some items that inspired a new page - in the Girl Scout Beauty Kit section. Ernie Altvater sent in several Girl Scout Stationery images that are up in the Girl Scout Library.

2/4/08 - Ernie Altvater sent in some images of Girl Scout Camp Memory Books - an it inspired a new page! You can view them in the Camp Section.

- Girl Scout Uniform Buttons, new page - no dates yet, just started it.

2/3/08 - Started new pages in the Girl Scout Library; scrapbooks, calendars, photo albums and stationery. The pages are still a bit rough around the edges, I'll be adding to them over the next few days. If you have anything to add, just email.

Also: The Kids Clubs Museum has moved to its own website: http://www.vintagekidstuff.com

2/2/08 - the Altvaters sent in 4 Girl Scout related Valentine cards to add to the collection - it's now up to 8! They can be seen in the "Art of Being Girl Scout" section.

1-28-08 - The server to the website was down for the last few days - ugh! But it's back up. New pages: Lutheran Pioneer Girls, Sunbrite Junior Nurse Corps, Girl Pioneers

1/20/08 - 3 new pages added to the Kids' Club Museum; Moentita Girls, Bethany Girls and The Girls' National Honor Guard. Take a look at some of the other girl groups that were forming when Girl Scouting was getting started!

1/19/08 - 2 new pages featuring Girl Scout on Valentine's Day cards and Girl Scout Christmas items.

1/18/08 - found an old file on my computer filled with images of Girl Scout things - so several sections have new images here and there. Two great images that were found - I couldn't say it any better myself....

1/14/08 - new pages added; Camp Fire Girls Ceremonial gowns & CFG vests

1/11/08 - updated the Camp Fire Girls Patch Identification and Camp Fire Girls Ranks pages.

1/7/08 - update the Girl Scout Hankies and Brownie Girl Scout Hankies pages with some better images and information sent in.

1/6/08 - Girl Scouts - Volunteers for Victory page updated with American Girl covers and National Archive images of Girl Scouts in Internment Camps for Japanese-Americans.

Some folks have emailed that the website is too wide for their screens. Sorry about that, I don't know how to adjust the width of the website.

1/6/08 - Addendum - new section added - The Art Of Being Girl Scout. This section will be devoted to the public images of Girl Scouting; posters, magazine covers, etc.

1/6/08 - I'm slowly working through my emails - thank you so much for all the wonderful images! Some great people have sent in: Brownie "Badges" (before there were try-its), white felt badge images, (including a white felt Public Health - talk about RARE, now placed on the BADGES - Civic page), a different cookie cutter, a couple of GS plates. I fixed the Girls' Auxiliary page (I was emailed about it months ago!!!), added more camp things, some vintage Rockwood postcard images, new Girl Scouts of Japan images, moved a New Jersey council pin to the correct page, the list goes on  ... (shown left is the image sent in of the white felt badges).

1/3/08 - New page: Girl Scout Little House, under the National Sites Section

1/2/08 - Happy New Year! Updated the World Thinking Day & Camp W,Y,Z page with some items that were sent in. Also found the online catalogs for the Taiwan Girl Scouts and Brazilian Girl Guides, so there are some new images on those International pages.

12/30/07 - New section added - Girl Scout Beauty; compacts, soap sets, beauty box sets and combs so far.

2008 World Thinking Day

Looking for images of "Front Gates Signs" to Girl Scout camps, those great signs that let you know you've made it to camp. Shown below are three examples of GS camps I've worked at as a Camp Nurse. Please send in your images of Camp Signs to add to the Camp Pages! Email: Vintage Girl Scout Online Museum

12/29/07 - Thanks to Ernie Altvater's images sent in, the Girl Scout Cufflinks page is up and running!

12/27/07 - Council's Own Try-its, Badges and IPs have several new additions, as does the Cookie Patches page.

12/25/07 - Camp pages have a new collection of patch images, as well as other items, too numerous to mention. I'm slowly going through the emails left for the last couple of months- sorry to anyone awaiting a response. I haven't spent much time updating the website or answering email lately.

11-9-07 - the Cookie Cutter page finally has some cookie cutters on it!, some bookmarks were added.

10/1/07 - updated the Future Homemakers of America page.

9-15 - The 2008 Cookie Pin is Cobalt Blue

9-14-07 - I've made some changes to the website over the last couple of weeks.

After I got home from my summer at Girl Scout camp I managed to fry the motherboard of my computer. The Geek Squad at Best Buy was able to salvage much of my files, but I lost something in the Front Page program. It wouldn't allow me to update the website. So I had to rebuild it! While I rebuilt it, I added new stuff, rearranged things and generally freshened things up. I hope you like the new additions.

I've dropped the BLOG as my source of posting updates. It was a hassle to deal with. I'll simply post updates here.

The Memorials & Markers page (now under the Girl Scout National Sites section) has 4 new listings. The Camp pages that list all the Girl Scout camps I have found,  have been divided up alphabetically (all the "A" camps on one page, all the "B" camps on another, etc). I am overwhelmed at the number of Girl Scout camps in the last 90+ years. So many camps are gone!

Just about every page has something new - especially the Council's Own Badges, Try-its and IPs pages.
