A complete* collection of the 56 Girl Scout troop crests are shown here, on a variety of fabrics. The earliest crests were on black felt, then uniform fabric was used, starting with khaki. This lasted until 1979, when they were produced on a vivid green fabric not used in uniforms. Over the years designs changed, new ones were developed and some were retired.

In the very early days of Girl Scouting, girls were in patrols. 2 or more patrols formed a Company. A Captain was the leader, and had to be at least 21 years old, and a Lieutenant was an assistant leader. (Thanks Anne Varberg!)

Troop crests were large and round as shown in this 1913 photo. They didn't change to oval until 1914.

The image of the  4 round crests shown above were donated by the Altvaters.
