Girl Scout Week Give-Aways

Girl Scout Week was often a focal point for Girl Scout troops as they rounded out their year. Beginning in 1933, at first, Girl Scout Week was in October to honor the birth month of the founder of Girl Scouting, Juliette Low. However, that changed in 1955, to the days surrounding March 12th, the official first day of Girl Scouting back in 1912. Each day of the week had a special focus and local newspapers often carried photographs of girls in full uniform performing tasks - ready for the camera. Girls were expected to wear their uniforms each day of Girl Scout Week, starting with the Girl Scout Sabbath, when girls in uniform were often given special acknowledgement from the church pulpit.

A wonderful tradition of give-aways during Girl Scout Week, used to promote Girl Scouting to the public as well as encourage Girl Scouts to visit their local retailer to pick up their free item, began in 1934. Pens, pins, charms, scarves, toys and other items were offered throughout the years.
Girl Scout Birthday Week give-aways are treasures to find today!
